The Mexican Government will support funeral expenses and repatriation of the bodies of two Mexican migrants who died on 30 June when the vehicle in which they were traveling collided with a truck in Texas, United States, reported the National Migration Institute (INM).

“The INM of the Ministry of the Interior will support funeral expenses and the repatriation of the bodies of two migrants of Mexican nationality who died today when the van that was transporting them collided, and that previously evaded a checkpoint in Texas, United States,” the agency said in a statement.

On Thursday 30 June, four people, including two Mexicans, were killed and three seriously injured when the vehicle they were traveling in collided with a truck after evading a police inspection for suspected contraband people, reported the Texas Department of Safety and Security (DPS).

The incident occurred on the Interstate 35 near Encinal, 43 miles (70 kilometers) north of Laredo, Texas.

The Mexican immigration authorities lamented the deaths and expressed their condolences to the relatives, in addition to trusting the speedy recovery of migrants of Central American origin who were traveling in the same vehicle, and were hospitalized for injuries resulting from the collision with the rear of a trailer.

The INM also promised to establish communication and provide care to relatives of deceased Mexicans so that they receive the bodies “as soon as possible” “for a dignified burial in their place of origin.”

Finally, it condemned any act “that implies putting at risk the integrity and protection of those who are in the context of migration and who only seek better living conditions for themselves and their loved ones.”

The accident is the second deadly event related to human trafficking this week in Texas.

A truck with dozens of suffocated people in the trailer was discovered last Monday in San Antonio, Bexar County. As of Wednesday, the county medical examiner had confirmed the death of 53 migrants after being transported in the truck without ventilation and under high temperatures.
