inmate-exonerated-in-florida-after-serving-33-years-in-prison-for-rape-he-did-not-commit-is-charged-again-with-attempted-murder

A man in Florida who was released from prison after serving 33 years in prison for a crime he did not commit today finds himself back behind bars for attempted murder.

Last month, Edward Clayton Taylor, aged 57 , was celebrating a judge’s decision to vacate a conviction in the rape case of a 4-year-old girl in 1986.

His lawyers fought against the sentence for more than a decade.

However, the effort seems to be in vain, since the inmate faces a new prison sentence if he is convicted of an incident in which he shot another man in the middle of a brawl this week.

The incident in Jacksonville Beach was captured by security cameras in the area. In the footage, Clayton is seen walking towards the victim before striking him in the chest. When he was trying to escape, several individuals shot at his vehicle.

The police found bullet holes in the suspect’s car.

Taylor denied any connection to the events.

The African American was arrested last Saturday. He faces charges of attempted second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Taylor had been paroled into the 2019.

The judge decided to exonerate the convict, among other things, because the victim retracted her allegations and not all the evidence in the case was provided to the defense.

2019

“Innocence Project” advocated for Taylor’s release from 2010.

The man remains in custody at the Duval County Jail under a bail of $1.1 million dollars.
