I live in Miami and as a resident of the City of the Sun, I know how uncomfortable it can be to live in the heat. But, a few days ago I feel different high temperatures; They don’t suffocate me as much anymore, nor do I worry about sticky moisture messing up my hair.
Now, the heat squeezes my heart because it reminds me of the 50 migrants who recently suffocated inside a truck trailer in San Antonio , Texas. If you seem to suffocate and even feel your blood pressure drop just by getting into a car that has been parked in the hot sun for a few hours, how horrible will it be to die along with dozens of people whose lungs are fighting for little oxygen? that runs through the dark, stinking and hot car where they have been locked up for days?
And so, the same truck that was supposed to take Mexicans, Hondurans, Guatemalans and other Latinos to the land of freedom, became in a mass grave.
Every time we see in the news that find groups of migrants in subhuman conditions, which shows that the greatest risk of “wet crossing” to the United States is not being deported to the country of origin after being discovered by Immigration officers in the Rio Grande, in the desert or at the border.
The great danger is in falling into the hands of those criminal coyotes who do not have the slightest respect for human life. ana and not only expose their victims to death, but also abuse and sexually assault women, youth and children. And not to mention falling into the clutches of human trafficking halfway.
I know that there are desperate situations in other countries that force anyone to escape, whatever the cost. What I have heard is that the journey is traumatizing and can even cost your life. What is experienced today on the border is very different from what happened there 20 years ago.
I hope that the authorities punish with the full weight of the law the authors of this genocide and other coyotes learn to respect the lives of so many dreamers who risk their lives for a better future.
