The Mexican Sergio Pérez (Red Bull), second in the Formula 1 World Championship, who will start fourth this Sunday in the British Grand Prix, the tenth of the year, declared at Silverstone that “obviously, he wanted more” in qualifying this Saturday, but he believes that “in the race” they will be “much more competitive”.
“In these changing conditions, this has been a good result for us. Obviously, I wanted more and I’m not entirely satisfied, but we can fight from there and look forward”, commented ‘Checo’, born 32 years ago in Guadalajara (Jalisco) and who, despite retiring in the last race, two Sundays ago in Canada, is having a great season and is still second in the World Championship, with 129 points, 46 less than the Dutch Max Verstappen, the last world champion and leader of the World Cup, who will start second this Sunday in a race that the Spanish Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) will face from pole position.
“It wasn’t ideal, but looking at it another way I’m not totally disappointed, because at the end of Q3 (the third round of qualifying) I had (Lance) Stroll (Aston Martin’s Canadian) right in front of me , so my last two laps were not ideal and maybe, without that mishap, there would have been something else”, said the brave driver from Guadalajara, three times victorious in Formula One, in which he has twenty podiums.
“We solved the car problems that bothered us on Friday; and in the race we are going to be much more competitive”, pointed out ‘Checo’, who together with Verstappen also leads the Constructors’ World Championship for Red Bull.
“It will be important to be in the fight and have a good race pace tomorrow (Sunday); that way things will look different”, he explained.
“We have made a lot of progress so I will be optimistic and we can present a tough battle to the Ferraris”, he said.
“It’s going to be complicated, but we’re going to fight hard”, declared this Saturday at Silverstone, after the qualifying session, ‘Checo’ Pérez .
