Intense storms forecast for this afternoon and evening are threatening the long weekend in the tri-state area, but good weather will prevail, according to experts.
Today, Saturday, will initially be a “ typical muggy summer day” with a maximum temperature of 89F (27C), before conditions deteriorate significantly as a slow-moving cold front moves in between late afternoon and evening, bringing rain, strong winds and abundant lightning, said Greg Diamond, a meteorologist for Fox Weather.
“These storms could become severe,” potentially with winds of more than 60 mph in cities on the East Coast, including from Washington DC to Boston. “It will be spread throughout the region,” Diamond said. “It will be unpleasant”.
A Despite the good start, today will be “practically” a washout for anyone who ventures to the beaches and coasts. “So Saturday is not a great day,” the expert predicted. “The good news is that by (tomorrow) Sunday, the front will have moved and a much better day is expected.”
Sunny skies and temperatures in the 80F (32C ) return on Sunday in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, along with lower humidity, which should make any outing more pleasant.
The same is estimated on Independence Day Monday, although some scattered showers may arrive later. No precipitation is expected to interrupt local fireworks festivities, including Macy’s number 46 annual display throughout the East River, Diamond predicted.
“Sunday and Monday will be fantastic days to go to the beach,” he summed up. He added that he wasn’t too concerned about the possibility of pop-up showers throughout the tri-state area.
