Kaitlin Armstrong, the American who fled to Costa Rica, after the authorities in Texas issued an arrest warrant against her for the murder of her love rival, tried to start a new life in the Central American country where she had even signed up for yoga classes.
The suspect, aged 34, was living in a hostel, allegedly, to try not to spend the money she had saved so soon.
The Velo News site quoted an anonymous source who indicated that the woman had undergone cosmetic surgery. This information has not been confirmed by the authorities.
En a video, released by media such as the Daily Mail, Armstrong is seen on his back in shorts and a t-shirt with his hair much shorter, which was painted brown.
According to preliminary information from the authorities, the type of yoga she was studying was linked to “surfing”, and the alleged interest of the suspect was to teach classes in the province of Puntarenas.
Armstrong was detained by agents assigned to the Santa Teresa de Cóbano Tourist Police.
Initially, she identified herself to the officers under a false name. When the agents checked the immigration records system, they noticed that name did not appear in the input files.
Subsequently, the native of Texas offered her real name, and it was there that they discovered that she had an international arrest warrant.
It is not clear how the accused managed to travel from Texas to New York , and then from Newark, New Jersey to Costa Rica. What the authorities did indicate is that she carried a false passport. The fugitive arrived in the Central American country on May 18 on a United Airlines flight.
An effort between the Federal Marshals Service in coordination with other federal and state agencies and those of Costa Rica led to the capture of Armstrong.
The suspect is accused of murdering the cyclist Morah Mo Wilson, who allegedly had an affair with her boyfriend, Colin Strickland, also a cyclist. Wilson was found dead in an apartment in Austin on 11 May.
The American still has not been deported, and the process could take from days to weeks, a spokesperson for the General Directorate of Immigration and Immigration of Costa Rica confirmed to CNN.
The country has 30 days to complete deportation proceedings.
Until this Thursday, Armstrong remained detained in the Los Lagos prison.
