As part of the passage of Cyclone Bonnie, the Puerto Rico National Weather Service (SNM) reported this Saturday some flooding in various areas of the east and northeast of the island, in addition to heavy rains and winds.
The most important warning is for the eastern towns of Humacao, Juncos, Las Piedras and Naguabo, where flash floods may occur.
“There is a flood warning in Naguabo, and the highway number 31 in said municipality is reported flooded. It is recommended to use alternate routes”, explained the Emergency Management and Disaster Administration of the Department of Public Safety of Puerto Rico on Twitter.
According to the Puerto Rican authorities, abundant rains, frequent lightning strikes and strong winds are taking place. in bursts of up to 40 miles per hour (65 km/h).
In the metropolitan area, especially in Carolina, San Juan and Trujillo Alto, as well as in Ceiba, Fajardo, Luquillo and Río Grande, the authorities warned that minor flooding in low-lying areas with poor drainage due to heavy rains.
The meteorological institution described the waves and strong winds in these areas as “dangerous”.
Likewise, they warned about the “high risk of sea currents” on some of the island’s beaches.
