The National Water Commission, together with the National Meteorological Service (SMN) of Mexico, reported that due to the passage of tropical storm Bonnie, heavy to intense rains are expected in multiple states of Mexico and warn that it could become a hurricane category 1 during the afternoon-night of this Sunday.

According to the Mexican authorities, the tropical wave will cause “intense rains”, possible landslides, floods and there could even be an increase in the flow of rivers and streams in states such as Oaxaca, Chiapas, Guerrero, Michoacán and the south of Veracruz.

The Mexican government explained that the circulation of tropical storm Bonnie reinforces the probability of intense rains of 75 to 150 millimeters in the regions of Chiapas, Oaxaca and Veracruz, and strong from 25 to 50 mm in regions such as Tabasco.

“The Government of Mexico calls for extreme caution and attend to the warnings of the Civil Protection authorities”, reads the statement.

Likewise, they reported that on Monday night it could reach category 2 south of the coast of the Mexican state of Guerrero and it is expected that on Wednesday it will begin to move away.

Bonnie arrives after the events of Celia and Blas and Hurricane Agatha, which was the first cyclone of the season 2022 from Pacific.
