Just as he is getting ready for the trilogy against Golovkin Golovkin, Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez is still aware of his defeat against Dmitry Bivol. Two months after that defeat on May 7 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the Mexican explained the reasons why he could not beat the Russian.
“I have seen the fight two or three times. I see I’m tired. I wanted to try to do something, but my body didn’t respond to me,” Canelo said at a press conference. “No one likes to lose,” added the Guadalajara native, who now has a record of 57 victories (34 KO’s), 2 draws and 2 losses.
In this sense, Canelo assured who awaits revenge against the European striker. “Yes, I think of Bivol. It was a very competitive fight in the first round, but then I got tired. I think I only won one round after that. And as I said, I lost, but I will have my chance for revenge, “he said.
Trilogy between Canelo and Golovkin
Canelo and GGG will meet for the third time next 17 in September at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. In the first contest, which took place in September of 2017, they ended in a draw; while in the second, held in 2018, Guadalajara was imposed by majority decision.
Okay remember that Eddie Hearn, promoter of MatchRoom, announced that Álvarez’s rematch would take place in 2023: “We sat down with Dmitry Bivol and his team. We told him that he was going to defend the world championship from him around the same time as the Canelo-Golovkin fight in September.”
For his part, Eddy Reynoso, the Mexican’s coach, assured that first he would beat GGG and then they would turn all eyes on the rematch against the Russian: “He has not been left behind, it is a fight that was lost, but we are going to seek revenge next year. We have to prepare better”.
