suspect-in-deadly-shooting-in-denmark-was-sent-to-a-psychiatric-facility-for-24-days

The man who was arrested and is listed as suspected of killing three people and injuring several more during a mass shooting in Copenhagen, Denmark, was referred to a psychiatric facility for the next 24 days, the local police reported this Monday.

The man from 22 years old, whose identity has not been released, was known to psychiatric professionals, police said in a report. He is currently charged with involuntary manslaughter for the events of Sunday.

The events unfolded in multiple locations within Field’s Mall. A crowd was seen running through the mall as gunshots rang out, prompting heavily armed law enforcement officers to enter the scene.

Copenhagen Police Chief Soren Thomassen , pointed out at a press conference on Monday morning that the deceased were two adolescents of 17 years old and a citizen Russian from 47. The identities of the fatalities, as well as those of the injured, cannot be revealed following an order of the court hearing the case.

Two Swedish citizens and two other Danes received gunshot wounds and remain hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Several more suffered minor injuries while escaping from the mall, Thomassen said.

According to police figures published this Monday, 27 people in total were injured as a result of the attack, 20 of them suffered minor injuries during the evacuation.

Preliminarily, the police indicated that they detained the suspect 13 minutes after receiving the first emergency call, and reported that he was carrying “a rifle and ammunition” at the time of his arrest.

The subject is currently the only suspect, and so far no evidence has been found that he had acted with other people, but the investigations are still being carried out.

Likewise, Thomassen ruled out that it was a terrorist attack or motivated by a gender issue. Police believe the victims were shot at random.
