Breathing is the reason why we are alive. That wonderful moment in which oxygen penetrates the body, to reach the most remote cell and at the same time remove carbon dioxide or CO2, a waste substance from metabolism. The balance in favor of oxygen is the guarantee of the body’s acid-base balance.
Breathing is unconscious, ordered by the center located in the hypothalamus. We cannot control it, since it is an autonomous reflex. But, at the same time, it responds to influences from the conscious part of the brain—the cortex. Due to this, the emotions that we are experiencing will change the way we breathe, will influence our biochemistry and will be decisive in maintaining health and developing the disease.
Emotions with deficient breathing: anger , rage, fury, resentment, envy, hate, anger, resentment, regret, misunderstanding, nostalgia, lack of love, sadness, melancholy and mourning.
All these emotions decrease the intake of oxygenated air, either by direct depression of the respiratory center or by less use of the respiratory muscles. Then, toxicity and free radicals will increase.
Emotions with optimal breathing: joy, satisfaction, reciprocated love, euphoria, forgetfulness, forgiveness, resignation, libido or sexual desire, physical exercise, understanding, empathy , fun, tranquility and relaxation.
How can I improve my breathing rate?
The first thing is to know ourselves and assess throughout the day what emotion prevails in us. Once identified, work to modulate it in our favor.
- Carry out strength training three times a week and aerobic exercise at least twice 30 minutes.
- Do basic respiratory training.
- Breathe in three times: inhalation counting 1-2-3, retention counting 1-2-3 and expiration counting 1-2-3.
And in this way increase until you reach five times: 1-2-3-4-5. This requires training and persistence. The correct thing to do is to master the basic 1-2-3 form for a month or two, before increasing to more complex ones. This type of breathing can also be done during exercise, as it increases our capacity.
We must eat better, in terms of fats and toxins in food, and drink enough water to be balanced. With these simple, but very important habits, our ailments would improve and we would be stronger on a daily basis.
