Two tiny bottles of Scotch whiskey barely 50 milliliters sold for more than $8 ,000 each through an online auction.
The drinks were produced by the Springbank and Malt Mill distilleries and sold through the Whiskey.Auction website.
In an auction that ended on 19 July, a bottle of 50 milliliters of Springbank 1919 that was matured by 50 years before being bottled in 1970 reached the figure of £7,440 (approximately $8,800 Dollars).
Springbank single malt bottle sale broke a previous auction record for a mini bottle which was set by another Springbank from 1919 in August 2021 for £6,440 ($7,760).
The miniature Malt Mill was produced in 1959 and aged by 10 years. The little bottle sold for £6670 (about $8061 dollars).
According to Vine Pair, the whiskey in the Malt Mill Distillery bottle is “an extremely rare spirit, distilled on the site of today’s Lagavulin distillery on the Scottish island of Islay. A barrel of whiskey from the distillery was featured in the 2012 whiskey movie ‘The Angels’ Share’”.
Food and Wine explains that the closed Islay Distillery operated from 1908 to 1962 and only produced blended whisky, so the whiskey in the Malt Mill bottle is considered an important historical find.
Another bottle of Islay whiskey that has been sold at a high amount exceeded $ 105,000. The bottle was created specifically for Queen Elizabeth’s visit to the Scottish island.
“The prices achieved on these two very rare miniatures are exciting, but perhaps not unexpected given the rarity of these whiskeys” , said Isabel Graham-Yooll, director of Whisky.Auction.
Both mini bottles of Springbank and Malt Milt were sold accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
Although the cost of the small bottles of Springbank and Malt whiskey Milt was raised, they do not exceed the record for the highest cost of a miniature bottle of whiskey.
The record for the most expensive miniature sold to date would be held by a mini bottle of Macallan of 62 years Lalique Six Pillars collection No. 5 that was sold in 2021 for £ 12500 (about $15,000 Dollars).
