The President of the United States, Joe Biden, confirmed that the United States Government executed the leader of Al Qaeda Ayman al Zawahiri, during an anti-terrorist operation carried out by a drone in Kabul, Afghanistan.
During a televised speech from the balcony of the Blue Room of the White House, Biden said that with the death of al Zawahiri, which occurred over the weekend, “justice has been done” and that the world should no longer fear this “ruthless and constant killer”.
Also, Biden addressed “all those around the world who want to harm America” and assured them that their country will always remain vigilant and ready to act when it comes to defending the security of the cities. American years.
The execution of Al Zawahiri
Al Zawahiri was assassinated in the Sunday morning in a residence in Kabul, specifically at 6: 18 local time, when he was in the balcony of the residence where he was staying and an American drone fired two Hellfire missiles at him.
Only the leader of Al Qaeda died in the operation, and there was no collateral damage, not even the members of his family who were staying with him, “something that Biden had insisted on several times” and that he had set as one of the conditions to proceed with the attack.
It is worth mentioning that US intelligence had been confirming for months through multiple sources and different methods that it was Ayman al-Zawahiri who lived in that house, from which he never left and was only exposed when he was in the balcony.
The Al Qaeda leader moved to the Afghan capital with his family earlier this year from Pakistan and, according to the White House, the septuagenarian was still a threat to the citizens, interests and national security of the United States.
The role of Al Zawahiri in Al Qaeda
The attacks by 2001 against the World Trade Center and the Pentagon made bin Laden the number one enemy of USA.
But he probably could never have done it without his helper. Bin Laden provided al Qaeda with charisma and money, but al-Zawahri provided the tactics and organizational skills necessary to turn the militants into a network of cells in countries around the world.
Their bond was forged at the end of the decade of 1980, when al-Zawahri allegedly treated Saudi millionaire bin Laden in the caves of Afghanistan as Soviet bombardment shook the mountains around him.
Zawahri, on the FBI’s most wanted terrorist list, had a $25 million reward dollars on his head for any information that could be used to kill or capture him.
