Two-time Formula 1 world champion Fernando Alonso will retire from Alpine to be the new driver for the Aston Martin team starting this season 2023.

The announcement was made by the British team through its social media account, where they stated that the Spaniard will have a multi-year contract.

In the letter, Aston Martin extolled the “incredible experience of Fernando Alonso, and his brilliant pace and racing ability, which represents a clear statement of intent from an organization that is committed to developing a winning Formula One team 1”.

In addition, Alonso said he felt quite optimistic about the future he may have at Aston Martin starting next season.

“This team is clearly applying the energy and commitment to win, and is therefore one of the most interesting in Formula 1 today ”, he assured.

“I have known Lawrence Stroll and Lance Stroll very well for many years, and it is obvious that they have the ambition and passion to succeed in Formula 1”, Alonso continued. .

The Spanish driver also stressed that Aston Martin is committed to victory, understanding the investments it has made in resources and new facilities.

“No one in the Formula 1 today is showing greater vision and absolute commitment to victory, and that makes it a really exciting opportunity for me. i”, he assured.

He also made it clear that he still wants to compete to return to the top of the podium and become a champion, as it was before.
