Joan Laporta, president of FC Barcelona, revealed this Monday that the club sold 24% of Barça Studios (the audiovisual production company) for 100 million euros ($103 million dollars) to Socios.com, a company that is already a global sponsor of the Barça entity that specializes in cryptocurrencies in the world of sports.
“The operation includes the metaverse, the NFTs (digital files) and the ‘tokens’ (digital currencies) and, in principle, it is a sale forever of this 25%”, added Laporta at the press conference to present Jules Kounde as a new Barça player.
In this way, the Barça club activated the third lever, after selling 25% of the television rights of LaLiga for the next 25 years in two steps to the Sixth Street mutual fund. The agreement with Socios.com, according to what EFE learned, was closed in the United States and has been the way the club has found so that LaLiga does not put obstacles in registering the signings.
Hopefully we don’t have to make more levers, it’s something that has been done in a certain situation to save the club and incorporate new players and the risk is under control”, assured Laporta.
The president explained that these operations “will allow the registered players to be registered” ( Lewandowski, Raphinha, Koundé, Christensen and Kessié) and that he does not believe that “LaLiga will put any impediment”. In addition, he pointed out that once the transfers are registered on August 13 “we will see what happens”, making reference to new incorporations that could take place. Bernardo Silva is the most desired.
