mega-millions-jackpot:-what-if-the-illinois-jackpot-winner-doesn't-show-up

As you well know, last Friday it was learned that there was a winner of the Mega Millions grand prize of $1,337 million dollars. The ticket was purchased at a Speedway store in the city of Des Plaines. However, the winner has yet to appear and time is already running out on him.

The winning numbers for Friday night’s draw were: 13-36-45-60-67, Mega Ball: 14.

If the winner of the $1,337 million does not appear, then the state will recover all the money, since the money would never have been claimed, according to the official Mega Millions site.

It should be noted that each state decides how it will use that money, so Illinois would have to analyze in what will spend the $1,337 million at the time.

Each state has its own waiting time. In the case of Illinois, the winner has 12 months from the date of the drawing to claim their winnings, but only has 60 days from the draw date to choose if you want to receive the money in a single cash payment or receive it in annual payments.

The prize of $1,337 billion is for the winners who choose the annuity option, in which a payment is given annually during 29 years. However, most winners opt for the cash option, which for Friday night’s drawing was estimated at a one-time payment of $780.5 million.

Illinois Lottery Director Harold Mays said, “As far as the winner is concerned, we haven’t heard of the winner. We don’t know whether or not they know they won the prize, so I encourage everyone to check their ticket.”

The Illinois Lottery advises the winner to sign the back of their ticket, seek legal advice and to schedule an appointment with the Illinois Lottery to claim their prize.

The recommendation to sign the ticket is made in case the winner loses their ticket or it is stolen. And it is that the lottery tickets are ‘bearer’. That is to say that anyone can collect it, unless it is signed.
