What for a long time was a successful career for Dominican Robinson Canó in the MLB, is turning into a nightmare that the player insists on prolonging. And it is that this Monday he was designated for assignment for the third time this season, this time by the Atlanta Braves.
Robinson Canó’s current campaign has undoubtedly been the worst of his career, going through three different teams without being able to produce as expected of him. After starting with the New York Mets and later having a brief stint with the San Diego Padres, the Caribbean man also had no luck with the Atlanta team.
After missing the entire 2021 due to a suspension due to the use of prohibited substances, the Quisqueyan returned to the Mets hoping to show that he could still be valuable to the team, however, he barely managed to play meetings before being designated for assignment and later released.
When everything seemed to indicate that the career of the man born in San Pedro de Macorís had come to an end, he received a new opportunity for the San Diego Padres, but things didn’t go well either. He only played 12 games and after being sent to the Minor Leagues, he was also released.
His third opportunity this season to return to the Major Leagues was given to him by the Braves, a team in which he has been less than a month and with who could barely participate in nine games before being designated for assignment once again in a move in which said team acquired Venezuelan Ehire Adrianza from the Washington Nationals.
Among the three teams, the second baseman could barely connect 12 hits in 10 shifts to leave a batting average of .150 with a home run, four RBIs, five runs scored and an OPS of .240.
Cano’s career has gone downhill since he left the New York Yankees in 2013. At that time he signed a contract for 10 years and $240 million dollars with the Seattle Mariners, an organization in which he shone in only four seasons.
From that moment on, the problems with injuries and the use of illegal substances began, which have brought him to where he is today , being one more player of the bunch in an MLB where young people are quickly making their way and consolidating themselves in the different teams.
