Two people were found dead amid the McKinney Fire that has caused the evacuation of thousands of people from their homes in Northern California.
Siskiyou County Sheriff Jeremiah LaRue , told ABC News that the bodies of the deceased were found inside a vehicle in the driveway of a property that was engulfed in flames, adding that the couple was apparently trying to escape from the scene.
The identities of the two deceased persons have not been disclosed, as they hope to notify their relatives.
The McKinney Fire has become the largest wildfire in California all year when exceeding the 55, acres.
Gavin Newsom, Governor of California, declared a state of emergency for the fire, which started on Friday afternoon due to a combination of dry fuel after drought, lightning and high winds.
In response to the fire around 650 Firefighters have struggled to contain the fire, but with little success, authorities said, saying Monday it was “0% contained,” but light rain overnight prevented the flames from spreading any faster.
More than 2, inhabitants of the area around the Klamath National Forest were ordered to evacuate the place, reported ABC News.
Although the scope of the McKinney Fire has had record in 2022, is much smaller than the Dixie Fire, which rocked California last year, burning hundreds of thousands of acres, becoming the second largest forest fire ever recorded in the state.
The McKinney Fire occurs when two other states on the west coast of the United States have broken records for the most consecutive days with extreme heat.
