The United States has imposed a series of new sanctions on people linked to Russia, including a woman who is allegedly the girlfriend of Vladimir Putin.
Alina Kabaeva, a former Olympic gymnast who United United States has described as a “close relationship” with Putin, was one of the people and companies sanctioned.
The United States Treasury Department reported in a statement that Kabaeva heads the National Media Group , a group of pro-Kremlin media organizations.
Putin has denied news reports that they are romantically linked, however, the UK sanctioned Kabaeva in May.
Andrey Grigoryevich Guryev, a business tycoon who is a “known close associate” of Putin was also among those on the sanctions list, the US said, meaning assets are blocked and US citizens are generally barred from dealing ar with them.
US officials they said that Guryev owns Witanhurst Mansion in Highgate, which is “the second largest estate in London after Buckingham Palace”.
They also named a Cayman Islands-flagged yacht, the Alfa Nero, as Mr. Guryev’s “blocked property.”
The last This round of sanctions also targets MMK, one of the world’s largest steel producers, because it is one of Russia’s largest contributors and provides substantial revenue to the Russian government.
The Department of Commerce also announced sanctions against other individuals, as well as against a financial institution accused of carrying out a sanctions evasion operation.
Separately, the United States Department of State reported this Tuesday that it was imposing restrictions on e visa to 552 Russian officials and members of the military for play a role in the actions against Ukraine, as well as 31 foreign officials from unidentified nations for their support of Russia’s annexation of Crimea.
