Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and Paraguay joined forces this Tuesday to launch their candidacy for the World Cup 2030, which will celebrate the 100 years of this tournament that was precisely held for the first time in Uruguayan lands. Sports ministers and presidents of the four federations were present at this event.
Alejandro Domínguez, president of the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) led the presentation ceremony of what was called the “World Cup Centennial”, about which he indicated that there should be no other candidates.
“This is the dream of a continent. South America understands that football has to recognize and not dispute. There are going to be more World Cups, but years come once”, Domínguez said during a press conference held at the Centenario Stadium in Montevideo, “the iconic place where history began”.
