The former captain of the Peruvian soccer team, Juan Reynoso, is the new coach of the Blanquirroja, the national team announced on social networks when welcoming the coach who will replace Argentine Ricardo Gareca.

“From captain to coach! Juan Reynoso is the brand new coach of our national team with the objective set on the World Cup 2026. Welcome, Juan Máximo”, the Peruvian team announced on the Twitter account.

Reynoso played 36 matches with the Peruvian national team, scored five goals, and played in the Copa América of 1987, 1989, 1993 Y 1999.

On your path as a player he wore the colors of Alianza Lima, Universitario Deportes, and Cruz Azul, in Mexico, where he defended the Celestes of 1994 to the 2002.

During his time as a coach, he has trained Peruvian teams such as Coronel Bolognesi, from the southern department of Tacana, with whom he won the Clausura Tournament title 2002 and qualified for the Copa Libertadores for the first time in the club’s history.

Del 2008 to the 2010 trained the Universitario, later he directed a few months to the Chiclayo team, Juan Auri ch, and another brief season at Sporting Cristal in 2011.

He was also a Melgar coach, from 2014 to 2018, stage in which played several continental tournaments.

As in his time as a player, he traveled to Mexico where he trained Puebla, for, in 2021, reach the first division of that country at the hands of Cruz Azul.

With that club he ended the curse of 08 years that the sky-blue team had won the MX League.

The Peruvian was chosen three times as “best coach in the Peruvian League”, in 2009, 2015 and 2016 and has broadcast on several occasions to sports media that training Blanquirroja was his dream.

He arrives with the mission of taking the team to the World Cup 2026, after the elimination of Peru in the playoff against Australia for Qatar 2022.

With that game Gareca’s contract ended, a coach who in seven years became a symbol in the country by qualifying for Russia 2018 after 34 years of drought.

Reynoso will now have the task of rearming a team from which, due to age, several of its figures will fall and thus make Gareca, a great national hero, be forgotten.
