One person lost his life and six others were injured after a shooting occurred on Monday night northeast of Washington DC, authorities reported.

DC Police responded to a report on the block 1500 of F Street NE around 8 : 24 of the night after several people were shot. Six men were found with gunshot wounds at the scene.

Police Chief Robert Contee stated that six men were shot and one was pronounced dead. The shooting took place outside the Azeeze-Bates Apartments on 15th Street. NE, according to 7News.

On Tuesday, authorities identified the victim as Lance Melvin, of 15 years old, from the southeast of Washington DC.

The other injured were transferred to care centers with injuries that are not health threatening, officials said.

In a press conference, Contee stated that the reason for the shooting has not been clarified and that he did not know if the individuals knew each other. He stated that there appeared to be a large group of people in the area when the shots were fired. Also, there is an ongoing investigation.

“I am angry that residents have to experience this in their community tonight,” Contee said. “The residents did not deserve this. They didn’t deserve to have people shot in the communities where they live,” the police chief was quoted as saying by The Washington Post.
