As customers are spending less and less due to inflation, large stores like Walmart, Best Buy, Gap and Target have announced that they will be doing sales and promotions to attract shoppers.
Below, we share some of the announcements of these discounts that companies gave:
Walmart
“Increasing levels of food and fuel inflation are affecting the way customers spend, which affects their ability to buy general merchandise,” Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said last week.
Walmart announced it would make more price cuts than previously expected on all of its inventory, particularly for apparel.
Walmart also introduced a new program for customers to purchase refurbished items from brands like Apple and Samsung at low prices.
Best Buy
This s spring, Best Buy said that inflation was affecting spending on consumer electronics, so the electronics industry would be promoting more things, as reported by CNN Business.
“As it has As high inflation continues and consumer confidence has deteriorated, customer demand within the consumer electronics industry has weakened further,” said Best Buy CEO Corie Barry.
So expect to see discounts at Best Buy .
Gap
Gap also said it has been ramping up promotions to get its inventory out during the second quarter, while Bath & Body Works said it did same because he saw that the store traffic is slowing down.
“Clients, particularly low-income clients, have become more cost-conscious and are limiting co Buying and/or looking for merchandise for sale at a lower price. They are being affected by the general inflationary environment,” the company said.
Target
Last month, Target said it had too many large unsold items like furniture , televisions and kitchen appliances, as consumers moved away from those products. “We didn’t anticipate the magnitude of that change,” said Target CEO Brian Cornell.
Because of this, Target has already marked down some of those larger items to make room for products with higher demand.
