The journalist Ernesto Méndez was murdered in San Luis de la Paz, Guanajuato, which represents the murder number 11 of a communicator in Mexico so far this year, according to the association Article 23 this Wednesday.
The crime occurred on Tuesday around 11: 00 of the night and “was perpetrated when an armed commando broke into a bar owned by the Méndez family,” the association detailed on Twitter.
The international organization specified that the journalist “had a history of threats”, for which it asked the Special Prosecutor for Attention to Crimes Committed against Freedom of Expression (Feadle) of the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic (FGR) to investigate the case.
Méndez was director of the newspaper “Tu Voz”, a Guanajuato media with information on politics, community and violence in the state, which leads in the number of absolute homicides on a national scale.
The Reporters Without Borders (RSP) association denounced “unprecedented” violence in 2022 against the press in Mexico, which remains one of the most dangerous countries to practice journalism in the world.
