Bryon Martínez, a young man aged 23, was fatally shot while responding to a knock at the door of his home in Long Island (NY) .
The Suffolk County Police Department reported that the crime occurred early yesterday morning at 212 5th Av. Huntington Station.
According to the report, Martínez responded to a knock on the door at approximately 1: 15 am Tuesday and when he opened it someone shot and killed him on his doorstep. An assistant medical examiner pronounced him dead at the scene, reported Fox News.
Martinez’s unidentified mother told News 12 that she and her other children woke up to the sound of gunshots. She then found her son shot multiple times at the front door. The young man had been living there for about 6 months.
“He opens the door, and an unknown perpetrator at this time shoots several times, hitting him in the upper part of the body,” confirmed the police commissioner Suffolk County, Rodney Harrison.
Police were still trying yesterday to figure out the motive. At the moment they believe that it was not a random attack and that Martínez was a planned target.
The killer escaped and has not been caught. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6392 or Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
