Palmeiras, current two-time Copa Libertadores champion, terminated Renan Víctor da Silva’s contract on Tuesday. The young defender fatally ran over a motorcyclist while driving in an apparent state of drunkenness.
The Sao Paulo team confirmed the contractual release of Renan, sub-world champion17 with the Brazilian team, for “just cause”. The player, aged 20, was on loan with Red Bull Bragantino, which also canceled the contract for the same reason.
The soccer player was involved in a fatal accident in the city of Bragança Paulista, when he entered the opposite lane with his vehicle and collided head-on with a motorcyclist, from 38 year old. The latter died due to the strong impact.
Renan was arrested a couple of weeks ago; however, he obtained the benefit of responding to the process in freedom after paying a bond of 242,000 reais ($46,000 Dollars). This amount will be transferred to the victim’s widow, as determined by the Court of Justice of Sao Paulo.
