A year old boy is in custody in connection with a shooting at a high school in East Oakland on Monday that left a year-old student injured, authorities reported.
The shooting occurred in the afternoon at Madison Park Academy , with an injured student, the severity of which has not yet been specified. His identity has not been revealed due to his age.
At the moment the authorities have not specified if the suspect was a student at the school, which works from sixth to twelfth grade.
Alameda County Sheriff’s deputies are assisting the Oakland Police Department, which is in charge of the investigation.
Meanwhile, the suspect of 12 tried to flee for years, but was quickly located and arrested. The weapon allegedly used during the shooting was recovered, reported FOX 2.
According to images shown by SKYFox, a large police presence could be seen from outside the school, as well as concerned parents waiting meet with your children.
“You have heard from me over the past few weeks about a series of shootings and incidents that have occurred in our schools, our playgrounds. This is affecting all areas of our city. No one is immune from this level of gun violence,” Oakland Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong said in the wake of the shooting.
For her part, the mayor of Oakland, Libby Schaaf, pointed out that the level of armed violence throughout the country, as well as in the city of Oakland, is “heartbreaking and unacceptable”.
“School should be the safest place for our children”, the mayor pointed out from her Twitter account.
