caravan-advances-with-a-thousand-migrants-who-left-mexico-for-the-united-states

A new contingent made up of about 1,000 migrants left early Sunday morning from Tapachula, in the southern Mexican state of Chiapas, bound for San Pedro, Tapanatepec, Oaxaca, in search of temporary documents that will allow them to travel to the northern border with the United States.

This caravan takes with it dozens of girls, boys and women who have been placed at the forefront of the group of irregular persons mainly from Central America, South America and Africa.

It was around 000: 00 at dawn local time that the crowd with flags and some cardboard took to the streets and walked towards the coastal highway Tapachula – Tapanatepec section, where they will walk about 300 kilometers, if the authorities allow them to advance freely.

In recent days, some people have walked out of Tapachula six migrant caravans of some 400 or 500 people, who have decided to undertake the journey because they have not been able to carry out the migratory procedures due to the long wait that it takes them to go to the government institutions in this city on the border with Guatemala.

This new group of people advances slowly, heading for the municipality of Huixtla, located about 50 kilometers from Tapachula, there they will ask to be granted their temporary permit. If they are not successful, they will continue walking towards Villa Comaltitlán.

The caravans reflect a record migratory flow to the United States, whose Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has intercepted more than 1.7 million people so far this fiscal year 2022, which began last October.

In addition, Mexico received a record of more than 58,000 refugee claims in the first half of 2022, an annual increase almost 15%, according to the Mexican Commission for Refugee Aid (COMAR).
