A grocery store in Oregon became the scene of a shooting after a man with an AR-style rifle-15 opened fire, leaving two people and wounding another, the authorities reported.
The shooting broke out after 7: 00 on Sunday night in a shopping mall in Bend, Oregon, Police Chief Mike Krantz told a news conference.
A person believed to be the shooter was found dead at the scene. Police found an AR-15 assault rifle and a shotgun near the person’s body, the police chief said.
Krantz stated that he believes the gunman entered the parking lot of the Safeway shopping center from a neighborhood behind the building.
A witness said he believes there was a second shooter, but Krantz said his investigation did not indicate “any evidence of a second shooter anywhere in the area.”
The chief of police reported that about 100 officers from various agencies Law enforcement were involved in the investigation, as the “crime scene was very large,” so it will take time to process the scene, including search warrants.
“Our hearts go out to the victims and their families,” Krantz said. “We know this is scary for our community and something we would never want to see happen in our city,” he said, promising that they are “following every lead.”
