The Texas Government has bused nearly 9,000 asylum seekers to New York City and Washington, DC in recent months, but this action complicates their asylum application processes for these immigrants, since they could have appointments in courts far from the aforementioned metropolises.
This decision by Republican Governor Greg Abbott is to pressure the President’s government Joe Biden on immigration policies, but his action has been criticized due to the negative impacts on immigrants.
The Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Alejandro Mayorkas, told CNN that the efforts of Abbott are affecting the federal migrant processing system, especially because the Republican takes unilateral actions.
“This lack of coordination creates problems in our very efficient processing,” Mayorkas said.
Abbott boasted that number of immigrants, state that it has sent 7,400 to Washington, DC, and about 1,500 to New York.
The figure for the Big Apple does not agree with the 6, 000 new asylum seekers who attend the local Administration, largely because several people sent to Washington, DC, they decide to move to New York.
“The bus transportation mission is providing very good relief. to our overwhelmed border communities…Operation Lone Star continues to fill the dangerous gaps left by the Biden Administration’s refusal to secure the border,” Abbott said.
New York Office of Immigrant Affairs, Manuel Castro, has accused Abbott of treating immigrants “as if they were cattle”.
Last Thursday, 223 immigrants arrived in five buses at the Port Authority station in Manhattan and the adults wore armbands etes.
Castro indicated today, after talk to new arrivals, that they “feel like they’re being tracked and are less willing to leave the buses (during their long route across the United States)” because they believe that if they don’t make it to New York, “they’re going to get in trouble.”
