A girl died after a statue of 550 pounds fell on her in a hotel in Munich last Friday 26 August night, German police told European media.
The 7-year-old girl, Lavinia Trematerra, was traveling with her parents from Italy, according to Sky News and the Italian outlet Corriere della Sera. Heute, a German media outlet, reported that the girl had been playing with another boy in a hotel courtyard in the Isarvorstadt district of Munich.
His father, a lawyer from Naples, was a witness to the incident, according to Corriere della Sera. He and others on the scene were able to remove the statue from the girl and took her to the hospital, where she later died of her injuries, according to the media.
The statue was about 4.5 feet tall height and was sitting on a concrete pedestal, according to Heute. But it’s not immediately clear what caused the statue to fall.

Munich is a city in southern Germany, internationally known for its annual Oktoberfest beer festival, and hosts around 9 million visitors per year, according to statistics from the city’s travel website 2019.
