Actress and model Charlbi Dean, best known for playing Syonide in the DC superhero series ‘Black Lightning’ and acting in the Palme d’Or-winning film ‘Triangle of Sadness’, has died of a sudden illness and unexpected.

It was a representative of the South African star who released the unfortunate news to Variety, although without sharing more details about the condition that took Charlbi’s life at the age of 32, in a New York City hospital.

Her final Instagram post, where she racked up more than 210 thousand followers, was shared several days ago and shows Charlbi in a series of professional modeling photos. That’s where the tributes immediately landed in the comments section.

Who was Charlbi Dean?

Charlbi Dean made her film debut in the movie ‘Spud’ by 2010, a comedy starring musician Troye Sivan as a freshman attending an elite private boarding school against the backdrop of the impending collapse of apartheid South Africa.

According to TMZ, Dean was engaged to male model Luke Volker.

A breakthrough in Charlbi’s career came in 2022, with her portrayal of a model named Yaya in ‘Triangle of Sadness’ , which will screen at the Toronto Film Festival and the New York Film Festival, and which stars Harris Dickinson and Woody Harrelson.

Dean’s other film credits include ‘Blood in the Water’, ‘Don’t Sleep’, ‘An Interview with God’ and ‘Porthole’.
