A teenager was shot in the head while filming a video for the TikTok social media platform in Colorado, an incident that led to the arrest of two minors and one adult, authorities reported.
The arrest warrant affidavit obtained by KRDO-TV stated that three minors were filming dance videos to post on TikTok in the southern Colorado city of Monte Vista when a Glock pistol 19 was shot last August 7. The identity of the victim has not been released.
Among the detainees is Emiliano Vargas, aged 21, accused of providing a firearm to a minor, while the other two minors who were at the scene were arrested for alleged reckless homicide and possession of a weapon by minors, the Monte Vista Police Department said.
One of the minors told police that he saw the other teen point and fire the gun at the victim before throwing her onto a nearby bed.
Meanwhile, Vargas stressed to the authorities that he was not there when the shot was fired, according to the affidavit.
The police saw the fateful video of TikTok, where the victim danced while someone in the background “played something,” the statement said.
Furthermore, investigators determined that due to the nature of the gunshot wound, it was unlikely that the victim had accidentally fired the shot.
E The case is being prosecuted by the Colorado Attorney General’s Office. Lawrence Pacheco, a spokesman for the office, said he could not comment on the case, as did Irene Arellano, public information officer for the Monte Vista Police Department, citing a judge’s order limiting press exposure before of the trial.
