The spotlight at Manchester City is on Erling Haaland, due to the projection he has and what he has shown in his previous teams, and Pep Guardiola takes advantage of the moment to highlight the footballing quality of the Argentinian Julián Álvarez, another of his signings for this season.
This Wednesday Manchester City will seek victory at home against the historic and recently promoted Nottingham Forest for the fifth round of the Premier League. Guardiola did not say if Julián Álvarez would start for the first time, but he did say that he deserves more attention.
“We are delighted with Julián Álvarez. Everyone talks about Haaland, but Julián is an exceptional player”, Guardiola declared about the Argentine who was trained and was a multi-champion at Marcelo Gallardo’s River Plate.
When it was thought that he could go on loan to another club, Guardiola fell in love with his game in the preseason: “He had a lot of impact in the preseason and now too , in the Community Shield, at the Camp Nou he scored a hat-trick with no problems and was involved in both goals in the last game”, said the Spanish coach.
A G Wardiola likes the 22 year-old Argentinian because “he gives his all in every training session” and that he likes “that kind of players”. In addition to that, “he is always close to the ball, with the instinct to be in the right place at the right time”, added the Spaniard.
Surrendered to De Bruyne
Guardiola understands Kevin De well Bruyne and knows that he is his most important player in the creation of the game. Seven years have passed since his signing and the Spaniard highlighted his importance at the club.
He acknowledged that he was “a great signing” and that “he was brilliant” during the last few seasons with the Citizens.
“There is no need to mention his incredible talent, his work ethic and his involvement with the club and his teammates. He is the vice captain. There are no doubts about this type of player. They are too good. You just have to look at his way of playing and there are plenty of words”, he concluded.
