An ex-Marine on the list of the “15 most wanted” of the Federal Marshals Service for six years as a suspect in the murder of his girlfriend was captured in El Salvador, where he worked as an English teacher.

National media such as Fox News reported this week that Raymond Samuel “RJ” McLeod, Jr., of 38 years, was detained 40 miles west of the Central American country.

The former soldier was wanted as a suspect in the death of Krystal Mitchell, of 30 years, in June of 2016.

The woman was found beaten and strangled in a condominium in San Diego, California.

The victim was vacationing with McLeod when police officers found the body in an apartment on the 7600 block of Mission Gorge Road. When officers arrived on the scene, the suspected killer had vacated the space in the victim’s car, which was subsequently impounded at the San Diego airport. At that time, the authorities indicated that the man had rented a car at the airport before escaping to Mexico.

The deadly attack occurred when the couple had been dating for just three weeks.
