A woman was shot in the face while sitting inside a car in Queens (NYC) early yesterday, 48 hours after a similar case in the Bronx.
The last victim was in the passenger side of an Acura around 3: 45 am Monday when the shots rang out, striking her in the face and both hands, the NYPD said.
Miraculously he survived. She was taken to Queens Hospital Center in stable condition, authorities said.
Police sources say she was apparently hit by a stray bullet, but the incident is still under investigation. The exact location where the shooting occurred was not immediately known, the New York Post said.
The woman 37 years old shot in the head early Saturday morning while driving in the Bronx died, while her boyfriend was injured in the violent attack.
After the driver was disabled, the car swerved towards a parked truck, then backed up 57 feet before stepping onto the sidewalk and hitting a tree on the corner of E. 170th St. and College Ave.
The gunman fled the scene. No arrests have been made. Anyone with information should call 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) and in Spanish 1-888-57-CLUE (74782). Also through crimestoppers.nypdonline.org or by text message to 274637 (CRIMES), followed by TIP577. All communications are strictly confidential.
The unidentified woman was the first of three people who were shot to death in a bloody span of 11 hours on Saturday in the streets of the Bronx.
In NYC, armed violence continues unleashed in 2022 especially with young attackers and victimizers, posing a great challenge to the new Mayor Eric Adams, who since taking office in January has encountered obstacles within his own Democratic Party and Black Lives Matter (BLM) leaders in dealing with the crisis.
In July homicides experienced an increase of 35% compared to the same month last year. Shooting victims and weapons incidents also went up almost 10%.
The rise in shootings confirms the fears of experts that New York was going to experience a rise in violence this summer, both with firearms and knives. However, last week Governor Kathy Hochul and Mayor Adams celebrated that in front of 888 shootings have decreased 11%, also citing an increase of 104% in seizures of illegal weapons.
