A cryptocurrency exchange company accidentally transferred almost $10.5 million dollars to an Australian woman, but didn’t notice the error until seven months later, a legal document shows.
Crypto.com made the erroneous payment in May 2021 when I was supposed to pay $100 dollars to Thevamanogari Manivel, but instead entered the wrong account number in the payment amount field, according to a ruling issued last Friday in the Supreme Court of Victoria.
Manivel, therefore , received $10,474,143 Crypto.com dollars by mistake.
The cryptocurrency company did not detect the erroneous payment until it was carried out an audit of the company in late December, seven months later, according to the ruling.
Crypto.com then brought an action le gal against Manivel and her sister Thilagavathy Gangadory, who received part of the payment of $10 .5 million, according to the ruling.
Crypto.com received freezing orders in February against Manivel’s bank account, but discovered that she had sent most of the money to other accounts, according to the sentence.
At the end of January, Manivel sent $430,000 to your daughter , according to the sentence. A month later, Manivel bought a $1.35 million home in Craigieburn, a suburb of Melbourne, with the money that was sent to him by mistake, the company affirmed in court.
Manivel later transferred ownership of the house to his sister, Gangadory, who lives in Malaysia, according to the ruling. Crypto.com attempted to freeze Gangadory’s bank accounts in March, but was unsuccessful, according to the ruling.
Gangadory did not respond to correspondence from Crypto.com’s attorneys, but did respond to an email email from Manivel’s lawyers, saying “received, thanks,” according to the ruling.
Manivel’s lawyers told Crypto.com that Gangadory was seeking legal advice, according to the ruling.
Failure in absentia issued Friday ordered Gangadory to pay Crypto.com $1.35 million dollars, sell the property and pay interest for $27,369.64 Dollars.
