A Michigan mother of five, who disappeared ten days ago, was found dead by authorities last Tuesday.
The body of Mollie Schmidt was found with a gunshot wound to the apartment of a man who is a person of interest in what has since been considered a homicide investigation, police in Wyoming, Michigan, said Wednesday.
Authorities suspect Schmidt, of 31 years old, was with Yenly García, from 44 years old, whom the police are now trying to locate.
“Detectives are investigating this case as a homicide and are following up on all leads,” a Wyoming police spokesman said during a press conference on Wednesday.
“Garcia’s whereabouts are unknown,” added the police spokesman.
Schmid t she told her five children that she would go to work on 21 in August, but never returned, reported MLive.com. Before he disappeared, he told his father he would see him the next day, but when his father arrived, the children were home alone, according to the report.
Schmidt’s family told a local news station that they were “both heartbroken and horrified” by the death of their loved one.
“I am eager to begin the process of holding accountable the person capable of such cruelty,” Sister Sarah Oaks told News 8. “I will not rest until little Mollie gets her justice.”
A The victim’s friend also told the news station that Schmidt had a “bright personality and always had an infectious smile on her face.”
“I wish her children had more time to know how amazing her mother was. She was an amazing person and she didn’t deserve any of this,” her friend Jennifer Cogswell said.
