A Florida woman arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated performed an Irish folk dance for police in an attempt to prove her sobriety, video shows.
Amy Harrington , aged 38 was arrested after rear-ending another vehicle near his home in Madeira Beach, Florida, last April .
Recently released body camera video showed her attempting to avoid the field sobriety test administered by Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies.
Here’s Harrington’s attempt to dodge the test complete with a weird Irish folk dance:
Officers arrived to find Harrington speaking with difficulty and giving off the “distinctive odor of a consumed alcoholic beverage,” according to an arrest report obtained by Newsweek. She was “almost falling” due to balance problems.
“[Harrington] danced during the walk, turning and standing on one leg, doing multiple movements of ballet and Irish folk dance”, said the report.
The video captured the woman taking three steps along the test in a straight line before she abruptly gave up and began an unsteady dance. She proceeded to walk away from the line completely, swinging her arms and jumping in circles in front of an officer.
As the deputy began to give instructions for a one-leg stand test, Harrington groaned, “Oh my God, you sound like my ballet coach.”
The end of this video captures Harrington’s arrest.
He then demonstrated what looked like an attempt at ballet dancing. “Do you want to pay attention so I can give you instructions?” he asked.
“Yeah, well, you sound like my ballet coach, so that sounds good,” repeated Harrington.
Throughout the tests, Harrington exhibited “multiple ranges of emotions including crying, anger, and apology,” deputies reported. She was eventually handcuffed and arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
The woman later refused to submit to breath, urine or blood tests, marking the second time she has refused tests after a separate incident in March of 2019, according to the arrest affidavit.
In Harrington’s car they found a white foam glass containing a “light yellow with orange liquid” that was confirmed to be alcohol.
