American Airlines, Alaska Airlines and JetBlue rank in the first three places in the list of airlines that handle their customers’ luggage worst, reveals data from the United States Department of Transportation.
During the first six months of this year, these companies mishandled travelers’ bags and other items more than any other.
The term mishandling refers to checked baggage that was lost, damaged, stolen or delayed on direct domestic flights.

In total, airline personnel did not correctly process more than 454, 000 suitcases.
In the case of Alaska Airlines, the company placed in second position with the mishandling of 7.2 checked bags out of 1, 000, for a total of 94,000. While JetBlue fell in third position with 7 bags for 1, 000 checked pieces or 000,785 in total.
At a general level , the US airlines that were monitored under this heading mishandled an average of 6.3 bags for every 1,000 during the first six months of 2022. Last year for the same period of time, the figure was 4.4 bags for every 1,000.
The number of mishandled bags on domestic US airline flights rose this year amid staffing issues facing carriers, as well as supply chain disruptions and the high cost of gasoline.
On the other side of the airlines that best handle passenger luggage, Allegiant Air appears with 1.6 suitcases with problems for every 1,000. This is followed by Hawaiian Airlines with 3.1 bags for every 1,000 and Frontier Airlines with 3.6 bags for every 1,000.
