The most recognized duo of sisters in world tennis, Serena and Venus Williams had a bitter farewell in what was their last appearance as a doubles team, when they fell to the Czechs Lucie Hradecka and Linda Noskova at the US Open with an enclosure literally a full house.
The Williams could not react to the impressive game of Hradecka and Noskova, who managed to win both sets 7-6(5) and 6-4, and in a certain way they clouded what was painted to be a night of joy in the Flushing Meadows of the city of New York.
Despite the defeat and dismissal in doubles, Serena Williams is still alive in singles where she will face the Australian Ajla Tomjanovic this Friday looking to advance to the fourth round of this US Open, which will also be the last tournament of her glorious career.
The fact that this could be and was the last doubles match of the Williams sisters, was the main reason for it to take place at the Arthur Ashe, something that is not usual for a first round.
Serena and Venus Williams: a historic duo
Despite this result, it is clear that what was done by the combination of Serena and Venus makes them a duo worthy of admiration. And it is that together they conquered 22 trophies in doubles, among them 14 Grand Slam, two of them in New York and three Olympic gold medals.
This record has only been surpassed by the duo of Martina Navratilova and Pam Shriver, who won a total of 20 Grand Slam boards.
In the individual category, Serena has a wide advantage since she won 23 Grand Slams, including seven Australian Opens, seven Wimbledons, six US Opens and three Roland Garros. In total, she shows off her 74 trophies.
For her part, Venus won seven majors, five Wimbledons and two US Opens. In total, she conquered 49 titles and more than 42 millions of dollars in prizes.
