The Franco-Ecuadorian double of Fabien Reboul and Diego Hidalgo beat Rafael Matos of Brazil and David Vega of Spain in three sets after losing the first set 3-6, 7(7)-6(4 ) and 7( )-6(7) in two hours with 38 minutes.
In the match played on court 4 of the “Billie Jean King” National Tennis Center under very high temperatures, Fabien and Hidalgo had to come back and win after dominate in the luck of ´tiebreak´ in the final quarters.
A duel that was very balanced from start to finish but that the very strong service of Reboul and the better consistency in the net of the Ecuadorian southpaw Daniel Hidalgo, made the difference.
The duel could have been resolved earlier when in the tenth game of the third set the double Reboul/Hidalgo had up to three match points, but Matos/Vega fought hard to finally hold their serve and force a tiebreak.
A large Ecuadorian supporter encouraged the Reboul duo /Hidalgo from the start, which somehow encouraged recovery after losing the first set.
With Diego Hidalgo there are two doubles players from Ecuador who are in the second round of the US Open, the last Grand Slam of the year.
The day before Gonzalo Escobar did it, doing double with the Uruguayan Ariel Behar, in this way the Ecuadorians do history by counting for the first time with two of its players in the second round of the New York Open.
Diego Hidalgo holds the ranking 79 of doubles ATP, while Fabien Reboul is number 69.
Meanwhile, another Ecuadorian, Emilio Gómez, son of Andrés Gómez who won the French Open in 1990, played the qualifying phase, but lost in the second round.
