The authorities in India created a special investigation unit to investigate the case of the murder of a 19 year-old girl at the hands of a Muslim who set her on fire after she reject his marriage proposal.
The new division began work this Tuesday with the assignment of two senior officers to the town where the attack occurred in the Dumka district in the state of Jharkhand, in the east of the country .
The attacker lived in the same town as the victim, identified as Ankita Singh.
On Tuesday of last week, the suspect poured kerosene through the window of Ankita’s house while she was sleeping and set it on fire. The victim died on Sunday from severe burns.
“Two senior officers have been deployed to the city and they will coordinate with the district police chief as part of the investigation,” the spokesman said. of the police in Jharkhand Amol V. Homkar, as quoted by CNN.
The suspect and an accomplice were arrested.
Before dying from his injuries, Singh identified the attacker as Shahrukh Hussain, and said the subject had been chasing and harassing.
The night before the act, around 8 pm, Hussain called her and told her that he would kill her if she did not talk to him.
The girl’s father confirmed to Swarajya magazine that Hassan’s harassment led his daughter to not go to school on some occasions.
“Shahrukh used to tell him, ‘ marry me, accept Islam, otherwise I’m going to make your life hell,’” said the parent.
The Vishva Hindu Parishad or World Hindu Council announced community protests if the authorities do not they take action to do justice to the victim.
