President Joe Biden will give a speech on a national network to warn about the dangers facing US democracy and the need to defend what he calls the “soul of the nation” from movements like MAGA.
“The MAGA forces are determined to push this country back,” warns the president in a preview shared by the White House. “On the contrary, to an America where there is no right to choose, no right to privacy, no right to contraception, no right to marry who you love.”
The Democratic president has referred in recent days to the extreme actions of the MAGA movement, followers of Donald Trump.
Biden is expected to expand on that position in his speech tonight at 8: 00 pm Eastern and 5: pm West.
“We call it the ‘soul of the nation. He takes it very seriously when it comes to our democracy,” spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed. “Think of January 6. I mentioned the Inauguration. Think about what we are seeing today. Think about the battle that continues”.
About January 6 is in reference to the assault on the Capitol in 2021 by the followers MAGA.
The message will come as a Quinnipiac University poll revealed that 67% of Americans believe that the country’s democracy is in danger of collapsing.
Biden’s message will focus on the fact that the “rights and freedoms of the United States are still under attack,” according to a first report by NBC News.
The president’s decision comes after the FBI raid at Mar-a-Lago to find secret documents that former President Trump took unleashed threats against agents, including the threat of riots if the former president was charged in court.
