Víctor Manuelle is not worried that salsa could disappear, because for the successful singer, the dancers have kept it and will always keep it alive. And it is precisely those lovers of the genre who will honor him this Saturday, during the International Salsa Congress in New York.
“It was a great surprise to learn that the Salsa Congress wanted to honor me that has a lot of credibility, because the dancers are the ones who keep the genre current, they are the connoisseurs”, said the so-called “sonero de la Juventud”.
In its 20th anniversary, the popular event will take place from September 1 to 5 and will have as its main venue the Marriott Marquis in Times Square, where salseros will be able to dance with live music, participate in more than 60 workshops and enjoy twenty salsa dance groups of schools from 25 countries, among other activities.
Víctor Manuelle, who will share with the congress attendees on the 3rd, assures that events like this are very important, especially at a time when the Latin music industry is focused on the urban movement.
“Although there is a lot of talent, young salseros who want to expose their proposals are not given the opportunity. I think it is becoming difficult for a new generation because they are being very limited on the radio”, says who will celebrate next year 30 years of career, about the little commercialization of salsa at the moment.
“And if it is very sad that the spaces already seem to be marked for Marc Anthony, Victor Manuelle, Gilberto Santarosa, El Gran Combo, but there are countless proposals from super-talented young salseros, such as Carlitos García, Gerardo Rivas, Julito Otero and Jorge Yadiel, all Puerto Ricans, but in the Dominican Republic there are also, in Peru, in other countries”, he adds.
Together with Romeo Santos
From the admiration he has for the lyrics of the songs and the versatility of Romeo Santos, the new song by Víctor Manuelle, “Decidí Tener Pantalones”, was released tomorrow, Friday, and he is very excited about it. his lyrics and message.
“I wanted to see how Romeo would see Víctor M anuelle singing a salsa, and he with his particularity and his deep lyrics made this song that is quite strong, where the person gets tired of the abuse, of the infidelities, of being treated badly, and he put on his pants so that they respect him ”, he said.
To avoid that it look a bit “macho”, and thinking about his female audience, the interpreter wanted to make the video from the point of view of a woman.
“We put a pregnant woman in whom the man he is unfaithful to her with her best friend, and there the girl’s passions and anger awoke, and we used the part of the song that says ‘I burned the mattress for being cheeky’, to reflect with fire the burning of the past, and carry that message ”, he explains.
The voice of the bachatero is part of the theme in the choirs, which Víctor Manuelle described from the beginning as “good Romeo”.
“His voice is there, his essence in a song of his, in a theme with n a strong theme that is what has always identified me. When I asked him for it, I knew that he could take me out of my comfort zone with his creativity and his lyrics”, he assured.
