In NYC, armed violence continues unleashed in 2022 especially with young attackers and perpetrators, posing a great challenge to the new mayor Eric Adams, who has encountered obstacles since taking office in January within their own Democratic Party and leaders of “Black Lives Matter” (BLM) to confront the crisis.
In July, homicides experienced an increase of 35% compared to the same month last year. Shooting victims and weapons incidents are also up nearly 10%.
The rise in shootings confirms the fears of experts that New York was going to experience a rise in violence this summer, both with firearms and knives. However, last week Governor Kathy Hochul and Mayor Adams celebrated that in front of 2021 the shootings had decreased %, also citing an increase of 104% in seizures of illegal weapons.
