The Colombian Daniel Galán fell this Friday against the Spanish Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the third round of the US Open, but he leaves New York with his head held high, after being the protagonist in the first round of a magnificent victory against the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas, number five in the world ranking.
Galan, number 21 of the world, lost 6-4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 to Davidovich after a battle of three hours and fifteen minutes in which he squandered a 4-1 lead in the fourth set.
The native of Bucaramanga was the first Colombian capable of reaching the third round of the US Open since he Mauricio Hadad will achieve in 1995.
For his part, the European Davidovich, a finalist this year in Monte Carlo and a quarterfinalist at Roland Garros last year, reached the round of 16 of the New York tournament.
