The Harris Poll conducted an interesting “Survey of Americans and Millionaires, August 2022”, in which it found that although many find rich people despicable , more than half of the population would like to be a billionaire.
The survey was conducted online within the US by The Harris Poll of the 15 to the 17 of July, among a nationally representative sample of 1,989 US adults.
Research includes 184 Generation Z people ( ages 18-24); 560 Millennials (ages 25-24); 184 Generation X (ages 41-56); as well as 775 Boomers (older than 57 years).
Results found by The Harris Poll:
– 6 out of 10 US adults (60%) want to become billionaires one day, while the 25% He says he despises billionaires.
– He 44% believe they have the tools available to them to become billionaires. Crypto Investor Confidence Jumps to a Higher Level of 71%.
– Overall, Americans show great respect for billionaires, with more than 6 out of 10 who see the rich as good for society, innovation and the economy.
– However, there is a growing disconnect, as two-thirds of Americans believe that economic inequality is a serious problem nationally, with almost half (44%) of Americans who believe that billionaires make it more difficult to achieve their goals. Billionaires are seen as standing in the way of the personal dreams of younger Americans (59% of the Generation Z and 59% of Millennials) as well as diverse communities (68% LGBTQ and 58% Asian) .
– There is a growing interest in limiting the accumulation of wealth, with a 47% of Americans who think this way. For the 24% there must be a limit less than $1, million, while the 18% says that a limit should be set somewhere between $1B and $B .
– Feelings of justice are on the rise against American billionaires. The 65% think that the taxes paid by the rich are unfair; 59% believe that their activities contribute to the increase in inflation; and the 58% resent the accumulation of wealth they achieved during the pandemic.
– Two-thirds of Americans (66%) believe that people with extreme wealth should pay taxes differently.
– 7 out of 10 Americans firmly believe that billionaires have responsibility to improve society, but they are not doing enough.
– More than 4 out of 10 (42%) Americans believe that billionaires should not be allowed to buy businesses in the media industry, for example: newspapers, news websites or social networks like Twitter. Also almost three out of each ( 28%) say millionaires shouldn’t post on social media not at all.
