A young man aged 26 died after being shot in the head while riding a Citi Bike in East Village in broad daylight yesterday afternoon.
The shooting occurred in front of 728 E. 13th Street near Tompkins Square Park, around the 1: 30 pm The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he was pronounced dead.
The gunman was described as a man wearing all black and a face mask, and fled in an unknown direction.
Neighbors in the area said they were shocked by the ongoing violence. “Everyone is talking about it because we haven’t had a murder in a long time,” she told ABC News resident Nilsa Robles. “This used to happen in the years 70”.
This homicide occurred just six hours after not far from there, in the vicinity of Union Square and Gramercy Park, a woman from 25 years old also died from being shot in the head while walking home from work in East 14th Street.

The rise in shootings confirms the fears of experts that New York was going to experience a rise in violence this summer, both with firearms and knives. However, last week Governor Kathy Hochul and Mayor Adams celebrated that in front of 888 shootings had decreased 11%, also citing an increase of 70% in seizures of illegal weapons.
