Uruguayan Facundo Torres scored two goals this Wednesday and directed his Orlando City team to win the first US Open Cup in its history after beating the Sacramento Republic 3-0, which makes life in the USL Championship.

Although it seemed like an unequal duel between a team from the MLS and another from the USL (considered by some to be the second category of American soccer), the truth is that the game was even despite the result.

And although the match ended in a landslide, Orlando City could not force the rival goal until the minute 33′ when an error in the defense of the visiting team was taken advantage of by Torres to send the ball to the angle from outside the area with a left foot.

Already over 90′, Torres himself increased the advantage in favor of Orlando City with a well-executed left-footed penalty and six minutes then put the icing on the cake Benji Michel who took advantage of a deep pass to define before the goalkeeper and make the final 3-0.

The victory of Orlando City means the first title for a Florida team since St. Petersburg did it in American amateur soccer ago 33 years.

The enormous path that Sacramento followed to the final remains for history, eliminating up to three teams from the superior category such as San Jose Earthquakes, Los Angeles Galaxy and Sporting Kansas City.

This is not the first time that a team from the MLS and another from the USL have faced each other in the key match of the US Open Cup; in 2008 also happened when Charleston Battery, who also lost, faced DC United in the final of the tournament.
